Swimming course Front crawl in Tiel
In this course you will learn to swim a smooth and long-lasting front crawl step by step. This technique is clearly different from the sprint technique.
The front crawl is designed based on principles from the Alexander Technique. This makes it healthy for your back, neck and shoulders. This way of swimming will also benefit you in everyday life. You will leave the water refreshed and energized.
The swimming stroke is built up according to the following intermediate steps:
- position and balance in the water
- an efficient and light leg movement
- rotation of the body
- arm movement of the crawl according to Swim in Balance
- passive inhalation and active exhalation according to Swim in Balance
- you learn to breathe on both sides
- the teacher is always in the water with you and demonstrates a lot himself
The course takes place in water of 1.25 m depth, so that you can stand up between exercises. This is part of our method. We often do a movement first standing in the water and repeat this movement swimming. This contributes to a conscious use of your body. In this way we apply the principles of the Alexander Technique to swimming. This leads to good results and a fast learning curve.
The teachers at Swim in Balance are highly trained and guide you hands-on in the water. They also demonstrate all the steps in the water. The groups consist of a maximum of 8 participants. You will receive a series of practice videos showing where you will learn each lesson. So you can always see it again. We recommend that you practice on your own between lessons if you have time. Swim in Balance offers special practice hours for this. At the end of the course we make a video recording of each student separately and you will receive a certificate.

I really like the method. Because of the attention to body awareness, it was so much more than learning a stroke. It has brought me a lot in the area of physical and mental well-being.
I experienced the Swim in Balance lessons as a great boost for my body and mind. That may sound crazy, but it has given me so much more than a beautiful swimming stroke! Because of the attention and the calm, step-by-step build-up, I felt safe and competent enough to push my boundaries, in a way I never thought possible: From swimming stress and underwater fear to swimming like a mermaid, wonderful! For me it was an eye-opener that swimming can be so relaxing and fun. I found it very surprising to notice that my body awareness and coordination underwater were much less good than I am used to with yoga, for example. The SiB lessons allowed me to improve that, I became more aware and got a better grip on my coordination, which also improved my posture in daily life and reduced my back pain, but also calmed my head and improved my mood. I also finally dare to swim underwater, something I never thought possible. What a liberating experience! Swimming has become a fun, relaxing and enriching activity for me.
Last Sunday I was able to complete the 2,1km Amsterdam CitySwim thanks to your breaststroke course. I clearly noticed that the technique brings much more peace than the traditional breaststroke!
I didn't know what to expect exactly. The breaststroke was no longer possible due to whiplash complaints. I came across the front crawl course via Google and after email contact I decided to give it a try. I didn't have/had any real swimming condition, so I was dreading a full day course. It was a pleasant surprise and I didn't expect to learn and be able to do so much. Swimming from relaxation and more awareness of my posture. Really, completely fantastic! I'm going to practice at home soon. I can really recommend this to everyone.
Swim in Balance is a very nice method to learn the front crawl. I thought I would never learn the front crawl but after the first two lessons I already had confidence.

I suffered a lot from stiffness in my hips and lower back, and pain in my foot when walking. During the lessons all the pain disappeared. Sometimes I got tired in my lower back, because of stretching the psoas muscle. But that had a positive effect afterwards. Just like light muscle pain, because I suddenly started moving more. I started feeling stronger. In addition, I noticed that my posture improved, and that I have become more aware of tension and relaxation in my body, and can influence that more consciously. especially in my neck and shoulders
I really enjoyed the swimming holiday in Croatia. My swimming technique improved by leaps and bounds in a week. Besides swimming there was also plenty to do in the area and you could also completely relax. Nice group, relaxed atmosphere and great swimming!

Had a great week. Learned so much, super relaxing and fun. Came back full of energy and desire to swim. The program was well put together, communication and guidance were great. I did the crawl courses 1 and 2. They were fun courses where lessons were given in an enthusiastic, positive way. After course 1 I knew the technique but after course 2 I also mastered it. Now I can swim (more) relaxed

Great swimming course where the stroke is offered step by step. There is a positive atmosphere during the lessons. In addition, it is nice to have all adults around you who have the same goal. It is worth driving a bit for this! Definitely recommended.
I swim twice a week and wanted to learn front crawl for a long time, but I thought I would never learn it. I actually started this course with the idea that I wouldn't be able to do it and after this course I could forget about ever learning it. But after lesson 1 I thought: I'm going to learn this! I learned to swim breast crawl and the method is really very friendly for the back, shoulders and neck. The teacher is very knowledgeable and you get really customized advice while you are in the water.
With patience, attention and humor had good lessons breaststroke from Hieke. It is nice that your posture and swimming stroke are corrected in the water, so that you immediately feel the difference and can learn from it.
This summer I took the butterfly stroke course at Swim in Balance. I was not familiar with the Alexander Technique, but I am glad that I got to know it through this course. You really notice that you are taught an efficient way of swimming, in which you move through the water in a relaxed way. The teacher I had was really top-notch. Very involved and friendly. The butterfly stroke is a difficult stroke to learn, but miraculously, SiB managed to master it sufficiently in six lessons, so that I can continue to perfect it myself.
How nice it is to learn a stroke like this. Wonderfully relaxed in warm water, in small, manageable steps with pleasant feedback. At the end of the course I had mastered the butterfly stroke sufficiently to be able to continue on my own. I swim with much more pleasure and feel that every lesson and every time of free swimming is a blessing for body and mind.

I am very happy the I choose to do the Water Confidence class. It was a good investment for me, being actually able to swim through the end of the class. The teacher is at all time in water, helping step by step and adjusting your posture. It is a good start for any adult willing to learn how to swim. The way of swimming is very different than I am used to, but my neck and back feel much better! I see myself swimming with pleasure much more often now that I have mastered this technique. And swimming lessons as an adult.. are just a lot of fun! Something different!
The Swim in Balance step by step approach with the instructor in the water demonstrating swim strokes and guiding students to practice the strokes is an excellent way for adults to learn swim strokes and develop good swimming habits! Small groups in a pool where one can stand is also a great idea. One also learns through the Swim in Balance approach a philosophical component about learning to relax the body and trust some of the natural characteristics of water and buoyancy to help one swim. This is important especially for adult learners who come to swimming lessons with a natural fear of water.
Breaststroke according to the Swim in Balance method taught at Swim In Balance. It takes some getting used to, but once you've mastered it, you'll notice a significant difference in strain on your back and neck compared to 'normal' breaststroke. Lessons in Amsterdam take place in a separate pool, in small groups. Lots of individual attention; that's nice!
The great thing about this course is the personal approach. They look closely at where you are and what you need to move forward. Everything is explained step by step and with a lot of patience. I went to class with pleasure!

Overcoming your fear of water in a group of like-minded people, calm guidance from a great teacher and even enjoying getting into a swimming pool after the course. The butterfly stroke course at Swim in Balance was very pleasant. I received a lot of personal attention. It is nice that you are helped in the water in a relaxed way in clear steps. I can now swim the butterfly stroke quite well and am very proud. Exactly what I needed!
As for the breaststroke course. I can highly recommend this course if you can barely swim or if you want to swim in a controlled manner. Before I started the course, all the movements I made while swimming were actually too wild and I only concentrated on that. After 6 lessons, my experience has completely changed! I now move in a much more controlled manner and swimming has become a moment of rest for me without having to think about anything.
My swimming level has really improved 3 steps with this course. I must also say that I have come a long way. The instructor was very good and also made me decide to go for the follow-up course!
I can recommend the front crawl lessons. The groups are small so you get to know each other and you also have nice contact with each other. There is serious training but there is also time for a joke. I will definitely do the advanced training.

Last week I did the day course crawl. What a great experience that was! In 1 day I could not swim a crawl stroke, at the end of the day I swam a few meters of crawl stroke. Last week I practiced a few times and put what I learned into practice. It is getting better and better, really recommended 🙂

Recommended! A very nice front crawl basic course in Utrecht! Good teachers teach you a special way of swimming in a very personal approach. I hope to really learn to master the front crawl in a follow-up course.
With the aim of participating in a quarter of a triathlon, I immediately came to the conclusion with my A diploma that my swimming needed improvement (literally). Through Swim in Balance I laid the foundation to do this. During the course you really received personal attention and a lot of guidance and coaching to improve the details and swim more easily, faster and more relaxed. The lessons are nicely structured; you learn step by step and always get new “aha” moments, at a fast and easy to keep pace. Now it's simply a matter of practicing and building up your fitness. I've been doing laps for years. Breaststroke as we learned it at… school. When I finally allowed myself front crawl lessons with a traditional teacher, who works with planks, shouts Zoomers and instructions from the side and lets you make all movements at the same time, I was quite disappointed. I was and remained a thrashing dog with sour muscles. That method is not for me. Stopped after 2 lessons. He reported and showed from the side that my breaststroke could be better, which I saved but did nothing with. When I saw Swim in Balance, it immediately appealed to me. I know what Alexander Technique is. That also helped. But this immediately felt like the method for me. Maybe I didn't stand a chance after all! Have now done the front crawl basic course and move on to level 2 and breaststroke. Because pulling jobs with that last stroke now pulls too much on my lower back. And 'I save them all'. Ultimately, I want to learn all strokes at Swim in Balance.
Just followed the front crawl lessons in Zandvoort. Very pleasant swimming lesson and good teacher; everything is discussed very calmly and practiced immediately. Laughed occasionally. First I had to get over my underwater fear. But with the right swimming goggles (bought on the spot), it worked surprisingly quickly. Now it's a matter of a lot of practice.
When I went to the course for the first time, I found it very exciting. But that was soon over: I learned so much there! With my age (67 years old) I thought 'that won't work' but after 6 weeks of lessons I learned a lot. The system of breathing, relaxing and the alignment of your neck gave me a lot of confidence. It gives you peace in the water. Good instructors, learned a lot. Now I don't have to stay on the shore and watch, which was until now because I had drowned at a young age. You are never too old to learn. This swimming method is highly recommended.

With a torn inner knee ligament, swimming breaststroke was not possible for the time being. Great opportunity to learn the front crawl at Swim In Balance. Pleasant lessons in small groups and the teacher takes you step by step in the new stroke, in a swimming pool where you can stand. This allows you to practice relaxed. Definitely recommended, I really enjoyed having swimming lessons again after 40 years. It is important that you take time to practice between lessons and as far as the front crawl is concerned, it is useful to do the follow-up course immediately afterwards.
This is a great course to give you confidence and bring you further in your quest to master front crawl. Small group and can be tailored to wishes and needs of the participants. After 3 swimming courses (breaststroke and front crawl 1 and 2) I can say that I am a fan of Swim in balance. With a good structure of the lessons, a lot of personal attention and in a nice, relaxed atmosphere, I learned 2 very nice swimming strokes. I'll definitely come back!
Thanks to the Water confidence course, I dare to swim under water and I no longer panic when I end up under water from the water slide. I have completed the water confidence course and this has helped me a lot to make me feel safe in water. However, I would recommend that you call before purchasing this course and indicate what your goal is to get out of the course. This way you can better sharpen your expectations. Everywhere is a very safe environment with a lot of patience. You as an individual are looked at a lot and at what you can or cannot do. The exercises are therefore also adapted to your abilities. Highly recommended if you want to find ways to stay calm under and in the water!

Nice courses! I have done both the breaststroke course and the front crawl course and I will continue until I have done all the courses. Why? It made me happy and I learned new swimming strokes in a nice way. Learning takes place in small steps, so that it is easy to follow for everyone and yet it is not boring for anyone. So the material is well put together. In addition, the courses are given by well-trained instructors who stand next to you in the water and clearly show the steps a number of times. If you want to learn how to swim well in a relaxed way, this is definitely recommended!
An absolute must - during the course (breaststroke) you learn to swim in a different way than you are used to. The teachers give clear instructions and also give individual feedback. In addition, I had a nice group (8 people).

This special journey has brought me a lot, through the Alexander swimming technique and the relaxing way of teaching I have become friends with water again. In addition to this “reunited friendship”, other wonderful people and experiences have also crossed my path. Thanks for this special week.
