Swim in Balance has a wide range of lessons:
There are 6-week courses (all year round), day workshops, weekend workshops, private or duo lessons and swimming holidays. Depending on your availability, you can choose a different form. The content of the lessons remains the same. For example, if you don't live near one of our locations, or have irregular work, it can be useful to participate in a day workshop or swimming holiday. If you do live in the area, we recommend the 6-week courses as you can practice in between classes and get more benefit from your course.
Private lessons are recommended if you are in a circumstance in which more personal attention is required: for example, medical conditions or extreme fear of water. Our experience is that learning a new swimming stroke through private lessons takes about the same time as in a small course group. Your brain and body simply have a maximum of what they can absorb per lesson and we cannot speed this up with private lessons. We also see that students learn a lot from observing each other underwater and discussing this during the group lesson. You miss this if you only get lessons. Private lessons are also twice as expensive. We therefore recommend group courses for learning a new swimming stroke, but private lessons are of course allowed if you prefer.
6 week courses
This shape is ideal for learning a swimming stroke step by step with the Shaw Method. Between the weekly lessons there is time to absorb the material by practicing yourself. We work with small groups (max 8 participants) so that there is a lot of personal attention.
If you don't live near a lesson location or have irregular work that prevents you from having lessons at the same time for 6 weeks, opt for a day or weekend workshop: all steps of a swimming stroke in one day or two days. The results are often as good as with a course.
Note: keep swimming a lot after the workshop, because something you learn quickly will disappear quickly if you don't put it into practice (just like a crash course in driving).
Private or duo lessons
30, 45 or 60 minutes. These can be individual lessons or shared lessons with a friend. In a private lesson, any subject can be chosen as lesson content. Pass on your wishes, we like to find individual solutions. The private lesson is the best situation to work 1-on-1 on a topic. We also recommend this teaching method for medical conditions or extreme fear of water.
We offer you the opportunity to practice with us in between your classes, under ideal conditions. These 'practice hours' are only accessible to current and former students of Swim in Balance. You can book an hour of practice for 7,50 euros via this website. You will then swim in a lap next to our regular courses and lessons.
We plan these possibilities 1 week before the start of a new lesson block, next to groups that do not have that many participants, so that an extra practice track fits next to it. Maximum 6 swimmers per lane.
From mid-May to mid-October we organize 6-week courses and day or weekend workshops in open water. The advantage of this is that you swim in natural water without chemicals. If your goal is to swim outside a lot yourself, it is also an advantage to receive lessons in the same conditions as where you swim afterwards.
After successful editions in previous years, we will again organize three one-week swimming holidays in 2022 in the same wonderful 4-star hotel, directly on the Adriatic Sea, in Istria. Are you coming?
Swim run workshops
Swim in Balance regularly organizes special 'Swimrun workshops', where you will receive tips on an effortless and healthy way of swimming (specifically crawl) and running in one day: both based on the same principles from the Alexander Technique.
