INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES
Information for families
Swimming holidays at Swim in Balance are also suitable for families. Parents and children can learn a beautiful swimming stroke independently, each at their own level. Parents participate in the adult courses in the morning, with childcare available at the hotel. Children take a separate (shorter) swimming course in the afternoon, giving parents time for themselves, for example, to relax on the beach.
A children's course consists of one hour per day, over six days. During this time, a child can learn one specific swimming stroke (butterfly, crawl, or breaststroke). The program is adjusted in consultation, depending on the availability of the instructors. Adults have a longer attention span and therefore receive two hours of lessons per day, allowing them to learn two strokes in one week.

The Swim in Balance® method Teaches you to be mindful of a specific activity, which is a valuable skill for children to develop for the rest of their lives. This is what sets our teaching method apart from other swimming schools. among many other differences.
In the afternoon there are plenty of opportunities to do something fun as a family, such as mini golf, renting bicycles, snorkeling, etc.
We can offer special discounted family rooms at the hotel, depending on the size of your family. Email us for a specific quote.

Our children's vacation wish is to go surfing in Hawaii with the whole family. So, you really need to be a good swimmer! Last year, we found Swim in Balance online. We were just a little too late to go to Croatia. This year, we were on time. Everyone was already very enthusiastic beforehand. My husband got a taste of the course with a one-day course at Swim in Balance the weekend before. He came home very happy and relaxed. "This is going to be really fun in Croatia!"
Day 1, Saturday. After a wonderful four-day car trip through Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and a bit of Slovenia, we arrived at the Belverdere Hotel in Medulin, Croatia. It was a beautiful hotel, bright, modern, luxurious, and incredibly friendly. Esther, our swimming instructor for the holiday, was there to welcome us. We went to our rooms and then met our fellow students. It was a very pleasant and diverse group, each with their own motivation for participating in this swimming course. Esther gave us a menu with our program for the week and the introduction to it.
Day 2, Sunday. Slept wonderfully, and the breakfast buffet included lots of fresh fruit! Our son, Zana, had his first lesson, 9-11, with his group in the (indoor saltwater pool!). We went for a swim in the sea with the girls. There's a beach in front of the hotel with comfortable loungers and sunbeds. Then, 11-13, Aydin and I had our first swimming lesson. The kids are swimming and playing in the pool next door and having a great time! Esther has all sorts of professional swimming goggles that we can buy from her. As I lie there floating head-down in the pool with my goggles on, I feel panic rising. OMG, what have I gotten myself into? Now I really have to perform during my vacation, and I think that's going to be very difficult and challenging. Then Esther gently holds my neck and places her hand on my shoulders. "Relax everything," "Make little bubbles in the water." As she says this, the tension and anxiety disappear. I simply do exactly what she explains very clearly and calmly, and, more importantly, demonstrates. We learn to breathe relaxed underwater by singing "Happy Birthday." We learn that swimming uses a lot of energy in your brain when you worry and think a lot, which means you can't keep going for as long. We have fun with the other participants, being in the same boat together. The two-hour lesson flies by! Yes, I think this is fun!
In the afternoon our 3 youngest children have lessons, the youngest has diploma A, the others A & B. We read and swim at the outdoor pool, right next to the indoor pool. Every now and then we look inside and see the kids and Esther. Completely chill and happy at the same time they are at the end, we learn the butterfly stroke!
In the evening, we eat together with our family and chat with the other participants. What a beautiful place we are in, and how well everything is organized and taken care of. We're already thinking, "How wonderful!"
Day 3, Monday. From 7:00 to 8:00 AM, Aydin and Zana join Esther and two other participants in the Alexander technique running course along the beach. The little ones are still asleep, and I read a book on the balcony. The tennis courts are being raked. The yoga teacher sets out their mats on the grass. Afterward, everyone has their daily schedule, and in between, we do a lot of snorkeling at the beach and the pier right in front of the hotel. There are so many fish, we all bought Teletubbies snorkels and flippers on the beach. The girls are in the water non-stop.
The strange thing is, we all have a full program but it all goes very relaxed! This is due to the preconditions, everything is just very well arranged and take care of our swimming teacher Esther in the first place!
Day 4, Tuesday. Today we're going to put the finishing touches on our own with breaststroke and dolphin swimming, and it's going great. Everyone is focused yet relaxed. It's both challenging and relaxing. Sporty and meditative, truly special. Above all, it makes you so happy. After the swimming lesson, there's the beautiful surroundings of the pool. Fun activities for the children are also organized by the hotel's enthusiastic entertainment team. Archery is our children's favorite. There are also yoga and Pilates classes. The evening dinner is very extensive, different every night, freshly prepared, including vegetarian options and plenty of fresh fish.
Day 5, Wednesday. No lessons today; we're going on a boat trip with the whole group and a moonlit kayak trip across the sea in the evening. Esther is such a fantastic swimming teacher, a great hostess, and also very nice company! I had a fantastic birthday today :). Esther had told me it was my birthday, and the boat trip staff even came to surprise me with a homemade cake with candles—very unexpected and very kind! Today we moored the boat in the sea near a cave, jumped off the boat, and happily swam to the cave with Esther. I'm no longer afraid of swimming in the sea, even with my children. We still need to practice more, but it will come together. Kayaking across the moonlit sea and seeing countless stars at night was unforgettable.
Day 6 Thursday. Today we start with our second swimming course, we go for the front crawl 1. Zana goes for the butterfly stroke and the children who have 1 hour lesson instead of 2 continue with the butterfly stroke. We are all in a wonderful rhythm and what a nice holiday this is. You will not be bored for a moment, you are really working together as a family, you work on your own skills and there is time for your own relaxation and rest. You are very well looked after.
Day 7 Friday. Today was equally spicy with the salt water in the nose with the breathing at the front crawl. But Esther showed us the way and motivated, step back if necessary and steadily. Today we got out of the pool tired but satisfied. A number of participants agreed to take another trip to Pula to see the Archeon there. We stayed "at home".
Day 8, Saturday. Today was our last day of the course: swimming lessons, the sea, packing, and checking out. We said goodbye to Esther and the group, who were flying back to the Netherlands in the afternoon. We loaded our things into the car. We spent the whole day at the pool and in the sea, which was no problem at all. Completely ZEN, we started our journey back to Amstelveen in the evening. What a great plan for our summer vacation! Back in the Netherlands, we'll continue our swimming lessons at Swim in Balance, and we think it will be very valuable and enjoyable for our team as well. Thank you so much, Esther <3
